Gaywing

May 21, 2015

Fringed polygala (Polygala paucifolia) is out and about. I love this little plant. The odd flowers are an amazing adaptation for efficient pollination. When an insect lands of the fringed part of the keel it causes the reproductive organs to push up into the pollinator, thus forcing pollen transfer.
