Ep. 497 - Understanding the Bewildering Diversity of Plant/Pollinator Interactions

One cannot overemphasize the importance of plant/pollinator interactions. The world as we know it would not exist without these complex components of ecology. Getting good data, and more importantly, making those data useful is important in conserving and restoring plants and their pollinators. Join my and Dr. Chris Cosma of Conservation Biology Institute as we explore how he and his colleagues are working to bring plant/pollinator interactions to the forefront. Ep. 409 - Butterflies in a Changing World

Butterflies and plants are inextricably linked. It stands to reason then that if you want healthy butterfly populations, you first need plant diversity on the landscape. Join me and Dr. Katy Prudic as we explore her research into how we can better manage the human environment, especially in suburban and urban areas, to be good habitat for butterflies. Learn how citizen science opportunities are helping her and her colleagues understand everything from the impact of climate change and the presence of botanical gardens on butterfly diversity. Ep. 279 - A Pollinator Plant of the Year Program

There is a lot of information out there on which plants to choose for your garden. Often this information is geared towards a wide audience living in vastly different climate zones. As such, it can be extremely difficult to figure out what will work best for you. That is why I am excited to sit down for a conversation with Lauren Muller, the Conservation Outreach Coordinator for the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, to talk about their innovative Pollinator Plants of the Year Program. This program is centered on making regionally specific recommendations for gardeners to help improve the ecological function of their gardens. This program goes far beyond recommendations as well. Lauren and her team are working on all aspects of the gardening process, from sourcing seeds and propagating plants to working with local nurseries and communities to not only pick plants that benefit all kinds of pollinators but to make sure they are available to the public. This program is such a great example of thinking globally but acting locally. Ep. 250 - Nature's Best Hope: a conversation with Dr. Doug Tallamy

With his first book, "Bringing Nature Home," Dr. Doug Tallamy managed to distill decades worth of ecological science into a compelling story of the environmental benefits of native plants. Now he is back with an empowering new book entitled "Nature's Best Hope: A New Approach to Conservation That Starts in Your Yard." In a world full of doom and gloom, Dr. Tallamy's latest book is an uplifting and empowering guide to how each and every one of us can be part of the conservation movement and it all starts with native plants. With 83% of the land in the United States under private ownership, the power to help nature lies in the choices we make. Join Dr. Tallamy and me for an empowering discussion about how each and every one of us can play a role in restoring nature.
